Energy Queensland Stafford Depot

Construction of a specialised Energy Queensland depot on Brisbane’s northside

Ranbury was engaged to project manage the construction of a new warehouse and office facility for Energy Queensland in Stafford on Brisbane’s northside.

The scope for the project included:

  • Demolition of existing buildings and site preparation (including Asbestos removal).
  • Extensive earthworks, including excavation and remediation of 10,000mof soil.
  • Construction of a new ground floor and level one office space (1290m2) and warehouse (2040m2).
  • External works, including new sewerage, electricity and water connections, roads, hardstand, car parking, truck wash, retaining walls, fencing, landscaping, signage, gates and associated requirements.

The site required extensive civil works, including remediation activities prior to construction commencing. Initial site works also included sewerage line diversion works for the adjacent Queensland Urban Utilities site.

Ranbury worked with all stakeholders to mitigate delays caused by the substantial additional remediation works, ensuring they didn’t impact the deadline for completion.

During construction, the client made several large additions to the scope, including a solar panel system and an underbody truck wash. These were incorporated successfully within the budget and deadline for completion.

The new depot replaces Energy Queensland’s existing leased premises, centralising Energy Queensland’s Brisbane north services into a facility designed and built specifically to suit their unique requirements. The Babarra Street depot is now home to approximately 150 Energy Queensland field and support staff and 40 response vehicles, allowing the organisation to react quickly to outages and maintenance issues in the area.

Ranbury has provided a high level of project management service throughout the life of this project. They have maintained good project governance and reported clearly and accurately on progress and issues. Their team have been reliable and proactively collaborative with us as clients and related stakeholders, ensuring project success.

The custom-designed, centralised facility allows Energy Queensland to deliver quicker response times and improved service levels to Brisbane's northside.

After extensive stakeholder consultation, an innovative design solution was conceived to optimise the use of a constrained site with a steep gradient.

The project was delivered on time and on budget, despite increases to scope and site contamination.
