Construction of a state-of-the-art Animal Care Centre in Toowoomba for the RSPCA

Ranbury was engaged by RSPCA QLD to provide Project Management and Superintendent’s Representative services on the construction of the new $9.6 million RSPCA Animal Care Centre at Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport near Toowoomba. The new facility is set amidst 1.5 hectares of lush landscaping, and includes space for future expansion. It includes:

  • Spacious kennels with room for up to 200 animals, and capacity to care for horses and small livestock
  • A rehabilitation area for animals seized by RSPCA QLD’s Inspectorate
  • The region’s first triage facility for treating injured and recovering wildlife, allowing RSPCA to hold and assess rescued koalas
  • An RSPCA World for Pets store
  • A grooming and hydrobath facility
  • Boarding facilities
  • New theatrette, conference building and facilities
  • New cafe and gift shop
  • Landscaping works.

Ranbury undertook comprehensive value management exercises with the client, as the scope required a number of changes to ensure it fit within the budget.

Ranbury were integral to the successful completion of the specialised fit-out works, assuming project management responsibilities for the works partway through the process. Ranbury was also tasked with the supply and installation of a 550kV generator in January in the lead up to the official opening and this was delivered on time and on budget.

The facility offers boarding, behaviour assessment and quarantine facilities along with care and rehabilitation for rescued animals and wildlife.

Future development plans for the facility include a fully equipped veterinary hospital, subject to funding. The shell building for the clinic is already complete, and it has been fully designed for construction purposes.

121% increase in the RSPCA's capacity to deliver animal services in the region.

The new facilities allow RSPCA Toowoomba to support 45 work-for-the-dole positions as well as an increased number of community volunteering opportunities.

Delivered on time and on budget.
