Regional Rail Link ( City to Maribyrnong River)

INDEPENDENT ESTIMATOR FOR CONCEPT DESIGN OPTIONS AND PROJECT REVIEW SERVICES.

Project Support was engaged by Transport Victoria to provide six estimates for the concept design options supplied for the Maribyrnong River crossing component of the proposed new regional rail link. These services included (for six options):

  • Tunnel constructability review and costing
  • Civil and Track review and costing
  • Services costings including electrical, signalling, communications, ventilation and fire services
  • Overheads and Scheduling  Estimates
  • OPEX Estimate.

The Regional Rail Link Project consisted of approximately 47.5 km of new twin track with the option of crossing the Maribyrnong River by other tunnel/s or bridge.

Project Support provided an integrated team of specialist reviewers covering the following major areas of the project:

  • Tunnelling
  • Structures
  • Rail Systems
  • FLS
  • Power
  • Ventilation
  • Communications
  • Building structures and services

It was the first new major rail line for Melbourne in 80 years and was undertaken with the aim to remove heavy freight traffic away from using the electrified component of the Melbourne rail system.

The project consisted of building dedicated tracks for the Geelong, Bendigo and Ballarat trains through the metropolitan system from the City to Maribyrnong River works running between Southern Cross Station and Hopkins Street, Footscray.

The project included construction of new tracks, two new platforms, new stations, a new rail bridge over the Maribyrnong River and several road and rail grade separations. It also included the removal of two level crossings.
