Jilalan Rail Yard Upgrade

RANBURY A KEY PARTICIPANT IN THE JILALAN RAIL YARD UPGRADE

The Jilalan rail yard, located 3km south of Sarina is an important maintenance and servicing facility linking the Goonyella coal supply chain from central Queensland mines to the export terminals at Hay Point and Dalrymple Bay. The yard upgrade was essential to increasing throughput capacity from 29 to 42 trains per day (92 million tonnes per annum to 140 Mtpa).

The project was delivered through the coal stream alliance Jilalan, comprising QR National, Macmahon Holdings Ltd, MVM Rail, Connell Wagner, Aurecon Hatch and Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB).

The Jilalan Coal Stream Alliance delivery consisted of the following:

Two new main lines, two provisioning lines, provisioning shed, maintenance yard lines, locomotive maintenance shed, wagon maintenance shed, station building, new signalling interlocking, traction sectioning, bridges, new access roads and a construction accommodation village.

Ranbury project managed the design, construction and commissioning of works apportioned to QR National, provided project controls support including; OHS, QA, risk management and financial cost control services.

Ranbury provided strategic capacity advice and master planning services, prepared and presented the project estimates and facilitated the approval process through to sign off by QR National CEO. Ranbury was then appointed as QR National commercial representative. Our role also included design management and overseeing project delivery.

Ranbury managed and coordinated the alliance selection and approval process, and then prepared the project business case and scope for QR National portion of the works.
